Current status of assistants’ scientific research at University Hospital "Joaquín Albarrán”

Abstract

Development of scientific research is a mandatory requirement in perfecting a medical education subsystem. Research work at Joaquín Albarrán hospital has not been sufficient. The objective of this research is to determine factors that influence student researchers to keep far from research production. Methodological design was carried out with descriptive, retrospective and transversal studies on hospital assistant students in February, 2015. From a universe of1021 medicine students, a sample of 90 assistant students answered an anonymous survey with the following results: X2test with a significance value, p= 0.05;85% of assistant students participated, while 80% of them were from 3rd year, with 45%female investigators prevalence. 88% answered they perform medical research regularly, although 75% answered it is difficult to do research, 58% said they didn't have professional support and 56% expressed they only have few updated bibliography available; neither access to information and internet services and lack of statistical advise. This study concludes that reasons for few production of scientific research are in relationship to the fact that investigation works are poorly published. Other factors are the availability of updated medical bibliography and little knowledge of the importance of research, associated with a poor publishing culture of teachers and students.
