Abstract

Child malnutrition in Santa Elena is at an alarming level, becoming the highest in the country, affecting about 36% of children under five, and overweight around the national average. The objective of this research is to examine the evolution of child malnutrition in Santa Elena, its peculiarities, progress and challenges. This research is quantitative, uses data from the 2014 Living Conditions Surveys, and makes estimates through the use of probabilistic regressions. Among the main results is that child malnutrition in Santa Elena is related to environmental, social and personal determinants, which change over time.
