Abstract

The increase in the number of people suffering from obesity or overweight has made the majority of the Governments put up actions in order that the population can be aware of its dangers. Among those actions, the obligation or recommendation to include nutritional labels on products to warn of high contents of salt, fat and sugar has a high relevance. On these labels is the so called “Traffic light label", which is already used in the UK since 2004 and in Ecuador since 2014 and which is the object of analysis of this paper. Through a bibliographic research it is intended to explain the influencing variables in the perception of consumers about thetraffic light label in their purchasing decision.
