Abstract

The work presents a theoretical model as a proposal to motivate the development of innovation in the university context; The Catholic University of Cuenca in Ecuador is taken as a possible application case. The model takes as a reference the open innovation model and that of the Open University of Catalonia, whose fundamental pillar intercepts three components: teaching, technological and organizational innovation. The model contemplates a systemic vision of innovation and covers a field of action Top-Down (from top to bottom) or Bottom Up (from bottom to top) within the hierarchical organizational pyramid, it is also transversal to the entire organization, that is, its level of application covers all areas, helping to mitigate duplication of functions and efforts. For there to be implementation capacity, it is necessary to have the organizational and functional structures that enable interaction, this implies the articulation of innovation between strategic and operational levels passing through the tactical level, in the case of the Catholic University of Cuenca, it is proposed the chain from the Rector's level through the management of the Rectorate's Innovation Processes Directorate. For said direction, functions and processes are outlined.
