Characterization of an arrocero system of the Babahoyo canton, province of los Ríos

In Ecuador, rice is a very important cereal for feeding many families, as well as a resource of economic, social and environmental importance. The main aim is to characterize the rice production systems in Babahoyo, this research was conducted in the rice area of Babahoyo Canton, the information was collected by means of surveys with 21 variables that includes questions aimed at getting sociocultural, economic, and ecological information. The study was based on a conglomerate analysis, defining three groups, the largest one that comprises farmers with 53.70%, a medium group with 27.78% and a small group with 18.51%, highlighting important variables in groups such as a monoculture production system, the application of medium and high doses of fertilizers and pesticides, surveyed also mention that they have problems in the harvest due to low prices and the chain of intermediaries when marketing their goods.
