Areas of study and application of artificial intelligence in the best rated universities in Ecuador

The main objective of the review was to obtain data on the application of artificial intelligence in Ecuador within the higher education sector. The final graduation projects developed in three public higher education centers in Ecuador were reviewed. The information extracted from each project was: detailed field of knowledge of the career that carried out the project, detailed field of knowledge of the area of application of artificial intelligence, applied technique and software used. The following was concluded: the fields of knowledge with the largest number of publications are those related to electronics, mechatronics and software technologies, the fields of application of artificial intelligence have high variety without showing any specific trend, the most used techniques are machine learning and neural networks, and the use of free and paid software is balanced without any of them predominating.
