Fuel consumption versus eco-driving and traffic on a mixed route in the city of Quito

This research compares the incidence of driving style and traffic on fuel consumption, on a mixed route in the city of Quito. The selected route has Mariscal Sucre Avenue as its central axis, crossing the city from north to south and vice versa. For the measurement of fuel consumption, the SAE J1321: 2012 Fuel Consumption Test Procedure standard was taken into account, while an Arduino datalogger built on the basis of the Elm327 automotive scanner was used for the driving parameters. It was identified that, in relation to high traffic and through eco-driving, it was possible to save up to 18.94% of fuel, which represents 1.41 for every 100 kilometers traveled. The greatest saving impact occurred when using eco-driving without traffic, which allows fuel savings of up to 35.39%, that is, $2.83 per 100 kilometers
