Abstract

The purpose of this research was the redesign of the Informatics micro curriculum in the Ecuadorian Marine Corps School of Infantry in Guayaquil, based on a competencyeducational model  to fulfill the actual needs of students, orienting all the program contents towards a systemic and holistic and processes approach. It also includes the design of a multimedia module aimed at the learning of Informatics. The Investigation was quantitative with a correlational approach, which proposed a modal logical hypothesis involving four variables; field research, bibliography, and a proposal for intervention.   In order to answer the questions raised in the investigation, two techniques were used:  interviews to experts with the purpose of validating the contents of the competency-based micro curriculum and the contents of the module, and the survey, applied to students, teachers, and directors with the purpose of compiling information that would optimize the use of ICT’S and improve the teaching learning process.  The curriculum redesign considered the application of competencies that students should develop, as well as the use of the multimedia module, which made comprehension of contents easier and provoked a culture of self-empowerment and self-assessment on students.   In general, the findings show the importance of fostering and increasing the skills in the use of ICT’s, based on a model that will help, eventually,  to increase the academic performance of students.
