Cattle ranching in the Ecuadorian Amazon Region (EAR) is highly significant; however, there are few studies integrating the evaluation of livelihoods and sustainability. This study assesses livestock systems in the Ecuadorian Amazon using the capital theory methodology and the FAO’s SAFA sustainability framework to develop sustainable proposals. Interviews were conducted with cattle ranchers in Pastaza and Morona Santiago. Results show that in both locations, household heads are predominantly male, over 40 years old, participate in their associations, have access to credit, and do not receive government subsidies. Families typically consist of 3–4 members. El Triunfo exhibits a higher educational level, practices polyculture, dairy cattle farming, and layer poultry farming. Pablo Sexto shows greater generational renewal, full livestock infrastructure, and prioritizes monoculture, beef cattle farming, and integrated poultry–guinea pig fattening systems. Overall, El Triunfo parish achieved higher sustainability thresholds compared to Pablo Sexto canton.
