Abstract

Newcastle disease (NDV) is one of the viral conditions with a high degree of pathogenesis. The objective of this study was to determine the prevalence of Newcastle disease in in backyard poultry in the Cotopaxi province, using the ELISA serological test. 180 backyard poultry of different sex and ages, belonging to the Latacunga and Salcedo cantons, were sampled. An epidemiological survey was carried out on the owners. The ELISA-i test was performed to detect cases positive for the disease. The prevalence of Newcastle disease was 13.89% associated with non-vaccination against the disease, with female birds and adult animals between 12-24 weeks or higher being more affected. With cases where the birds were going through the peak of the viral disease or the virus in its part of replication and transmission.
